Connecting the Dots

Looking back, this client’s journey mirrors my own. Twenty-six years ago, we designed their first ground-up home — a big milestone for them, and me. It was my first major house project, the start of bigger dreams and deeper design work. As their life changed, so did my business. We’ve created homes through every chapter: raising young daughters, building careers, and now, their beautifully imagined “untirement” home.

It brings to mind something Steve Jobs once said: “You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards.” At the time, I had no idea how much that first project would shape what came next. But looking back, I can see how each home we have designed was part of a bigger story — one of growth, trust, and shared milestones. Through our client's journey, we see our own — and it’s a reminder of how meaningful design becomes when it’s built on a long-term connection.
